We then headed over to Norway Hall to a Dance titled "Save the Social Dance" which is primarily a Swing dance and boasts a much younger crowd (mostly college students) but still had a good mix. As the night progressed they played a lovely mix of Swing and Ballroom. The crowd at this dance is much larger, but also as stated before, hosts mostly Swing dancers. This was also a great time, and played good dance music and mixed in some crowd pleasing line dances.
We don't always get out much so it is very fun and full night when we can get it planned into our week. We offer weekly dancing and so it is nice to see what else is here in Bellingham. When the announcement time came at the second venue it was very apparent how many dancing groups are actually here in Bellingham. The time was filled up with announcements about all the different venues many of whom were represented. Basically you can dance 7 nights a week here in Bellingham!
Here is a list:
Monday night Swing in Everson
Tuesday night WC Swing in Bham
Wednesday Night Lindy with Wester Swing Kids AND State Street Fusion with Fusion at BDC
Thursday night Blues with Blues Bellingham AND Salsa at BDC (1st Thursdays only)
Friday Night Ballroom with BDC
Saturday Night Salsa with Rumba NW AND Saturday Dancing at BDC (Swing, Country and WC Swing & Blues)
AND USA Dance (1st Saturday Ballroom and 2nd Saturday Tango)
Sunday Night Tangos with TangoLife at the Majestic(1st Sundays) AND at BDC (all the other Sundays)
I could dance all the time in this town. Now this is not something I do now, seeing as teaching is every day any way :), but I do know some people who hit most of these regularly. As it appears above you can really mix it up all week long. And it doesn't stop there because in addition to these regular venues there are also ALL the EVENTS.
There are definite differences between the venues. For example, just last night, at USA Dance the crowd was older but the variety in dancing was better. At USA Dance people also practice better floorcraft and there are less almost collisions (or actual collisions) on the dance floor. Dancers here tend to know more dances and are more likely to ask strangers to dance and get everyone out on the floor. While the second dance seemed to have more energy (something youth brings :)) it focused ore on Swing, WC Swing and some Waltz and then some line dances. Floor craft is not practiced as well at this dance, it is a little more just fend for yourself and the Waltz is new to many of these dancers, but it was very enjoyable to see the fun that was being had.
Wherever you go in Bellingham, I am sure you are going to have a good time. Not even all the dance venues were listed above (find more info on going out at danceinbellingham.com). But wherever you go just remember, we at BDC are here to help you learn your dances, meet more dancers and have the most fun you can have and be the best dancer you can be :)
See you on the dance floor!
